Hope for all children in the Deben community
From 2012 we have been reaching out to under privileged woman and children in the Deben area. In this broken world that we live in, we need hope! We have had many different projects to help the peoples of the Deben community and try and alleviate some of the immense need we have seen. In our opinion, one of the biggest challenges that the children of Deben face every day is to maintain hope amidst very difficult circumstances. It is our passion to bring hope to the lives of these children.
It is a massive challenge, but we have decided to start by addressing their basic needs.
It has come to our attention that there are children in Deben primary school who have a basic need for clothing and food. Almost half the pupils are on a list of welfare needs and in cooperation with the school, we attempt to relieve some of this need. Our goal is to reach all grades (from grade 1 to grade 7) within a year with our outreach. Every grade gets an opportunity once a year to come and exchange rewards points at TSHOLOFELO (hope) shop.
With the assistance of the teachers, every pupil on the welfare list is given a hope points credit. The teachers will explain to them how the system works. Basically, they get rewarded for good behaviour. Doing homework, good performance during school, servanthood and many more are rewarded by giving the pupils hope credits.
This motivates the pupil to do his homework, be well disciplined and also be caring. It is a great benefit to the school and we have already had great feedback from the teachers on how this has improved discipline and general conduct at the school. It will also help these children to build a good character by focusing on these values.
On a given Saturday, we set up our ‘TSHOLOFELO SHOP’ in the school hall where the 60 learners of that grade with the most reward points can come and exchange there points at the shop. Anything from clothes, food products, toys and other household items can be found here. We also use this opportunity to teach on a moral life lesson.
We are entirely dependant on donations for the content of the shop. Without sufficient contributions, it would be impossible to run this project. We thank you for showing interest in the project and ask that you consider partnering with us by providing financial support in order to purchase the supplies for the TSHOLOFELO SHOP.
Help us reach our Goal of raising R50 000 a year for this project.
